Omega Updates Speedmaster 38mm Collection with Four New Gold Editions

This week, Omega unveiled the latest updates to its ever-popular Speedmaster line, with four new references being added to the women-focused Speedmaster 38mm collection. These new include two Sedna gold models and two yellow-gold editions, both precious-metal varieties offering either a diamond-bezel or a sans-diamonds option. The new watches come in the context of a slowed stream of news from the Swiss luxury watchmaker, though they also display the brand’s willingness to diversify its existing luxury designs in the context of the slowed overall market.

For those familiar with the Speedmaster 38mm design, the new watches are mostly more of the same, though now featuring the new materials and accompanying colorways. The yellow-gold options use a silver dial with green accents and are strapped on a green crocodile strap, while the Sedna gold models uses a cappuccino-colored dial with brown accents and are strapped on a taupe strap.

Each of the 38-mm cases are produced in the iconic, twisted-lug Speedmaster style, alongside large pump pushers and a signed crown on their right side. The dial is surrounded by a fixed tachymeter bezel in each watch’s accent color; the diamond versions feature a two-layer look with the tachymeter on the inside and the diamonds outlining it. Moving to the dial, we see an angled outer edge which is met by a subtle printed minute ring, with applied tick hour markers and the Speedmaster’s famous double dots at the 12 o’clock position. Each of the subdials is executed in a combined oval/circular style that provides the design a more feminine look, with running seconds displayed on the left side, a 30-minute chronograph counter on the right, and a 12-hour chronograph counter at the bottom with an integrated, rounded date window. Sweeping over the dial are two simple lume-filled pointers for the hours and minutes, while a familiar Speedmaster-style hand serves its traditional role as the chronograph seconds counter.

Inside the new models is the Omega 3330 Caliber, an automatic movement boasting a 52-hour power reserve that features, like nearly all modern Omega movements, a co-axial escapement, a free sprung-balance, and a silicon balance spring. The movement is protected via a solid caseback with an engraved seahorse design.

The four new watches are available now directly through Omega’s online shop, with the two standard bezel options retailing for $15,600 and the two diamond-accented editions sold for $18,900.

Seems silly choice to classify 38mm as for ‘ladies’ instead of unisex. It may aleniate men with medium to small wrist sizes
