Minty Fresh: Speake-Marin Launches the One&Two Openworked Dual Time Mint

Bright dial colors are on the rise this year, with many notable brands, including Cartier and Oris, adding their own variations on this springtime trend at the recently wrapped Watches & Wonders exhibition. Speake-Marin, an independent haute horlogerie brand tracing its design DNA to the distinctive vision of its eponymous British founder, also joined the party with its new One&Two Openworked Dual Time Mint. The new watch takes the original One&Two Openworked Dual Time design and updates it with a fresh, minty green overall colorway accented with stark-looking matte black details.

Offered in both a 38-mm or 42-mm case size, both produced in black DLC-coated titanium, the watch follows in the steps of Speake-Marin watches prior, complete with bold, slightly flared lugs, a relatively round and straightforward main casebody, and a conical, almost diamond-shaped crown. The watch is secured to its namesake mint-green rubber strap, which fastens to the wrist with a steel pin buckle in a black DLC treatment that matches that of the case.

Underneath the watch’s anti-reflective-coated sapphire crystal, an openworked dial is dominated by matte black and mint green color areas, providing a bright and playful variation on an otherwise very technical presentation. Along its outer edge, a black minute ring highlighted at each hour surrounds the face, broken up partially at the 1:30 position with a small seconds counter. Surrounding half of the counter, and almost hiding in plain sight due to its uncommon placement, is a retrograde date display.

At 9 o’clock, the watch’s dual-time feature (from which it derives the “One&Two” moniker) is found, with mint-green or black AM/PM sections. A small arrow pointer indicates the time in another zone on a 24 hour scale, sweeping over the micro-rotor powering the watch, which is seen below through the dial’s openwork architecture. Lastly, at the center of the dial are the heart-shaped hour and minute hands found commonly on Speake-Marin watches, passing over the various, visible openworked bridges and gears. The dial combines with the strap to provide a thoroughly striking look for the ensemble, one sure to catch attention whether it’s fitting in with the pastel tones of spring and summer, or standing out as a bright item on the wrist during the fall and winter.

Providing power for the One&Two Openworked Dual Time Mint is Speake-Marin’s SMA02 Caliber, an automatic movement developed in-house. Storing a 52-hour power reserve and ticking at a frequency of 21,600 vph, it is visible behind a sapphire exhibition caseback, with highlights that include a fuller view of its micro rotor and a host of high-quality finishes on its bridges, including Geneva stripes.

The movement is a part of the larger SMA movement family, launched by Speake-Marin in 2015, as part of a larger strategy “to fully develop and assemble proprietary movements within its atelier in the Neuchâtel area, Switzerland.” The first of these proprietary calibers made its debut in 2019, inside the first One&Two Openworked Dual Time, and it finds an additional home here in the new Mint edition.

The Speake-Marin Dual Time Mint will be limited to 10 total pieces for the 38-mm sizing, and 18 editions for the 42-mm version. The former is priced at 29,400 CHF ($32,180) and the latter, at 29,900 CHF ($32,700).
