Longines HydroConquest Now Garbed in Green

Longines has in recent years added new and eye-catching colorways to its sportiest divers’ watch, the HydroConquest, most recently with last year’s all-black and all-grey models with ceramic bezels that matched their dials. Among this year’s new releases, which the brand previewed last week in New York, is the latest version of the HydroConquest sporting a military-look khaki-green dial and bezel.

Like its predecessors, this watch boasts a polished ceramic insert in its diving-influenced, unidirectional ratcheting bezel that matches the dark matte green of the dial for a handsome monochromatic look. Its round, brushed stainless steel case measures a substantial 43 mm in diameter (a 41-mm version is also available) and is water-resistant to 300 meters thanks to a screw-down crown and a solid, screw-down caseback. The dial, under a sapphire crystal coated on both sides with several layers of nonreflective coating, hosts the familiar HydroConquest elements: three big, legible Arabic numerals at 12, 9, and 6 o’clock; luminous coating on the indices and hands; and a discreet date window at 3 o’clock.

Inside the case, which has been tested to a professional-grade 300 meters of water resistance, ticks the self-winding L888.3 caliber. Developed exclusively by ETA for Longines, it boasts a 25,200-vph frequency and a user-friendly 64-hour power reserve. Completing the picture is either a textured rubber strap in the same khaki hue as the dial and bezel, or a steel link bracelet with a double-security folding clasp equipped with a divers’ extension. Both versions carry an MSRP of $1,600.

Whilst I do love the Longines Hydro Conquest and especially this version in Khaki – let me be clear on the comments around the movement….
ETA is owned by the Swatch group who also provide movements to many many Swiss brands outside of their group……
The fact that this movement is specially ordered by Longines from ETA is a good thing. It is a far stretch though to call this movement “in house”…
The basic platform is a standard ETA movement – and luckily it’s priced accordingly…

Right. I have been waiting and waiting to select a watch and now I have made my mind up. It’s going to be this one with the matching khaki strap. I like that they are timekeepers for many skiing events, so it will look fine on the slopes, tracks and on the mountains, also when sailing and snorkelling. ETA and Longines are part of the Swatch group, I think, so it’s an ‘in-house’ movement and a reasonable price, for a good looking watch.
