Jaeger-LeCoultre Toasts 90 Years of Reverso with Burgundy Red Tribute Duoface Fagliano Edition

In 2021, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s iconic, Art Deco-inspired Reverso marks 90 years since its introduction in 1931. Ahead of that anniversary, the manufacture has unveiled a special edition of its Reverso Tribute Duoface model with a dial in rich, burgundy red, a swiveling case in 18k rose gold, and a burgundy leather strap from the boot-making artisans at Casa Fagliano.

Reverso Tribute Duoface Fagliano Limited (Ref. Q398256J)

The Reverso Tribute Duoface Fagliano Limited continues the tradition of the Reverso, one of the world’s most recognizable timepieces, developed for the “sporting gentlemen” of the 1930s, particularly polo players. The clean Art Deco lines and reversible rectangular case — originally designed so the watch’s front side could be flipped over to protect the crystal from being shattered by an errant polo ball — have endured into the modern era, in which the Reverso has grown from its original model into an entire collection, incorporating numerous materials, colors, and complications. This watch’s direct ancestor, the first Reverso Duoface, debuted in 1994, introducing the dual dials, one on each side, each depicting a different time zone. The gold case of the new model measures 47 mm x 28.3 mm in diameter and 10.3 mm thick. Its main (front) dial has a lacquered burgundy finish and displays the time on faceted, golden Dauphine hands in the style of the watch’s historical ancestor, which point to golden bar indices, doubled at 12 o’clock. A round small seconds display at 6 o’clock provides a contrast to the overall rectangular geometry.

The front dial is lacquered with a sunburst finish.

The reverse dial provides its own contrast to the main dial’s sunburst finish with its clous de Paris guilloché motif framing a figure eight of overlapping subdials with a gleaming opaline finish. The larger subdial shows the time in a second time zone, while the smaller one displays the time in 24-hour format and acts as a day-night indication. The case, with its hallmark Art Deco-derived gadroons on the front and bottom, is designed with a small slider in the upper caseband that allows the wearer to adjust the second time zone on the rear dial. The slider is completely invisible except when the case is released from its carriage to be flipped over, which also reveals a sunray pattern on the inner surface behind the swiveling case.

The reverse dial features opaline subdials framed by clous de Paris guilloché.

The watch, like its predecessors in the Duoface family, contains the manually wound Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 854A/2, a manufacture movement that beats at a frequency of 21,600 and carries a power reserve of 42 hours. The case is anchored via its elegantly curved lugs to a two-tone strap produced by Casa Fagliano, the famed Argentinean maker of polo boots. The strap, which references the Reverso’s sporting origins, is made of cordovan leather and canvas, the same combo used in Fagliano’s boots, with each piece cut and stitched by hand. It fastens to the wrist with an 18k gold pin buckle. The Reverso Tribute Duoface Fagliano Limited is a boutique-exclusive model, limited to 190 pieces and priced at $23,900.

The watch’s two-tone Fagliano strap recalls the look of polo boots.

Question, does the reverse face 24 hour second time zone have the ability to be set-off from the red-dial zone by half an hour (e.g., India Afghanistan) or 3/4 hour (Nepal)?
