Watch Insider: 4 New IWC Watches Debut at “Watches and Wonders” in Hong Kong

IWC Le Petit Prince - frontThe inaugural Hong Kong “Watches and Wonders” fair — inspired by the rapid growth of the Asian market and showcasing new watches from 13 luxury watch maisons — was held September 25-28 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. In this article from my blog, Watch-Insider.com, I present four new models (actually, line extensions) from one of the exhibiting brands, IWC.

The IWC Portuguese collection has one of the longest traditions of all the watch families from IWC, and emphasizes clarity, purist elegance and innovation, combined with precision and state-of-the-art mechanics. The new Portuguese Hand-Wound Eight Days has all the Portuguese’s unmistakable design cues. The watch has a power reserve of 192 hours, or eight full days. A sapphire caseback provides a view of the technically sophisticated, rugged and reliable IWC-manufactured 59215 movement, which also incorporates a power-reserve display. The silver-plated dial has Arabic numerals and traditional feuille-style hands. The leather straps, produced by Italian high-quality shoe manufacturer Santoni, underscore the distinctive look of the timepiece. The stainless steel version of the Portuguese Hand-Wound Eight Days (Ref. IW510203) has a black strap; the rose-gold version (Ref. IW510204) has a brown strap. Santoni uses an elaborate process to give its leather a noticeable patina. The technique leaves the leather looking as if it already had several years of use by a careful owner, but is in fact brand-new. Santoni straps are also distinguished by their orange lining.

The Portuguese Hand-Wound Eight Days (here in stainless steel, Ref. IW510203) from IWC has a power reserve of 192 hours or 8 full days. Precisely how much time remains before the owner needs to wind the crown can be read off the power reserve, visible through the sapphire-glass case back on the reverse side of the watch.
