IBG 2014: Highlight Watches from 3 Boutique Watch Brands

Parmigiani Fleurier introduced its new Tonda Métrographe collection of men’s watches at this year’s SIHH. Parmigiani describes the design of the new models as more “modern” and “urban” than many of the brand’s more classically styled pieces, albeit still taking cues from the existing Tonda 1950 timepieces. The Parmigiani Tonda Métrographe is distinguished by its slightly asymmetrical case shape: its left-hand profile, the one minus a crown, is a more conventional execution of the brand’s teardrop-shaped lugs, whereas the lugs on the right-hand profile are more elongated, extending to the crown and reaching around it to envelop the chronograph push-buttons.

The movement in the Metrographe, automatic chronograph Caliber PF315, stores a power reserve of 42 hours in two series-coupled barrels. The dial features a 30-minute chronograph counter at 9 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. There is an aperture in the latter subdial showing a triple date (yesterday’s, today’s, and tomorrow’s dates). A small subdial at 3 o’clock displays the running seconds. The two chronograph subdials have a snailed finish and are arranged in a figure eight design, a hallmark of the Parmigiani watch brand. The Parmigiani Tonda Metrographe is available in two dial colors, on an Hermès calf leather strap or a steel bracelet with specially designed links that echo Parmigiani’s teardrop-shaped lugs.
