Inspired by French Riviera Summers: Chopard L.U.C XPS Azur Limited Edition

If you’re seeking a watch that puts you in the mind of exotic summer getaways, Chopard may have your ideal travel companion. The jeweler and watchmaker’s longtime partnership with the Cannes International Film Festival, held every year on the French Riviera, has inspired the new L.U.C XPS Azur, whose bright blue hand-guillochéd dial takes its cues from the Mediterranean Sea.

The latest addition to Chopard’s high-luxury L.U.C collection (the initials refer to brand founder Louis-Ulysse Chopard) is limited to just 10 total pieces and comes in a 40-mm case made of “ethical” 18k white gold, the latter material being a point of pride for the company. The case has vertically satin-brushed flanks, a polished bezel and caseback, and a glareproof sapphire crystal over the dial. The radiating hand-guillochéd center of the blue dial gives way to a sunburst satin-brushed exterior circle with gold-toned minutes markers. Rhodium-plated dauphine hands tell the time on applied baguette-cut hour indices, while a small seconds subdial and a date window share the 6 o’clock spot.

Inside the 30-meter water-resistant case, and visible behind a sapphire pane in the back, is the movement, Chopard’s self-winding L.U.C 96.01-L  caliber, equipped with a 22k gold micro-rotor and two mainspring barrels (aka Chopard Twin technology) that supply the watch with a 65-hour power reserve. The movement has been certified for chronometric precision by the official Swiss testing agency COSC and also awarded with the prestigious poinçon de Genève (Geneva hallmark) for its meticulous haute horlogerie finishing, which includes chamfering and circular graining on the mainplate and a côtes de Genève motif on the bridges.

The Chopard L.U.C XPS Azur has a hand-sewn black alligator leather strap with a white gold pin buckle and retails for $39,000. You may not be planning to wear it while walking the red carpet at Cannes, but the watch will definitely make a statement even if you’re just lounging on the beach.
