Brilliance Meets Precision: Grand Seiko Adds Two Limited Timepieces to the Heritage Collection

Grand Seiko once again honors its rich history and revives successful models from the 1960s, combining attention to detail with the latest state-of-the-art movements from its own workshops. The 44GS 55th Anniversary Limited Edition pays homage to the famous 44GS from 1967, which premiered the sought-after Grand Seiko style and comprises the two references SLGH009 and SLGA013. Both debutantes are limited to 550 pieces and housed in a 40-mm case made of “Ever-Brilliant Steel.” This stainless-steel alloy is particularly resilient, long-lasting and features a bright, almost white hue highlighting the elegant silhouette of Grand Seiko’s sought-after hallmark design. As is de rigueur for the manufacturer, the watches are water-resistant to 100 meters and protected against magnetic fields up to 4,800 A/M.

Their dials – blue for the SLGH009, dark gray for the SLGA013 – boast a subtle texture that is reminiscent of the elliptical orbit of the stars as they move across the night sky. The SLGH009 is powered by the self-winding Hi-Beat 36000 Caliber 9SA5, launched in 2020. Running at 36,000 VpH, it amasses a power reserve of 80 hours and features an accuracy of -3 to +5 seconds per day.

The latest Spring Drive movement inside the SLGA013, Caliber 9RA2, provides 120 hours of power reserve and a precision rate of +/- 10 seconds per month. Thanks to the sapphire crystal casebacks, the view onto both these exquisitely finished movements is unobstructed. Prices: $10,500 (SLGH009); $9,500 (SLGA013).

  1. My days of buying Seiko are over. Worst customer service I have seen. Same watch (never worn) back to them 4 times in one year for the same problem. Might be fixed now along with comment by them about wear and scratches, Never on my wrist or anyone else. Same as new.

GS – just amazing technology, finish and accuracy to rival the very best available in the world. So glad the Spring Drive now has the Power Reserve indicator on the back… Simply amazing.
