Bovet Amadeo Fleurier 43 “Two Bald Eagles:” A Unique Piece Featuring America’s National Symbol

As America celebrates its Independence Day, we take a look at a one-of-a-kind timepiece from Bovet Fleurier that may stir your patriotic spirit as much as it speaks to your passion for fine watchmaking: the Amadeo 43 “Two Bald Eagles” Grand Feu Enamel.

The latest in Bovet’s series of unique timepieces featuring miniature paintings, the watch has a 43-mm-diameter rose gold case in the company’s now-familiar Amadeo construction, which allows the watch to be quickly and easily converted from a wristwatch to a pocketwatch to a miniature table clock. Its grand feu enamel dial, on an 18k rose gold base, features a miniature painting of two bald eagles — the majestic bird that has served as a national emblem for the United States of America since 1782. The grand feu (“big fire”) enameling process is a traditional decorative technique, began in the 17th century, mastered by only a handful of modern craftsmen today. Taking its name from the incredible heat required to fuse the enamel powder in the kiln — between 760º and 900° C — the process produces a shimmering, translucent surface.

The timepiece is powered by an in-house movement, Bovet’s self-winding Caliber 11BA12, with a 28,800-vph frequency and a 72-hour power reserve. The case, water-resistant to 30 meters, is mounted on a full skin alligator strap with an 18k rose gold ardillon buckle. A gold-plated silver chain is also included for the wearer to attach when converting the Amadeo case to pocketwatch mode. The price: $115,000.
