Like its predecessors, this U.S.-exclusive edition of the Saxonia Annual Calendar indicates on its symmetrically designed, three-register dial the time, date, month, day of the week, and moon-phase. Typical of this complication — which is a notch or two, complication-wise, below the far more complex perpetual calendar — the date and month durations are displayed correctly from March to January, with the wearer needing only to adjust the date indication once per year, as February transitions into March. The date, as per Lange tradition, is large and legible in a double window at 12 o’clock, while the moon-phase at 6 o’clock is built for extreme accuracy, needing correction only once per 122.6 years. Responsible for this functionality is an in-house-made, self-winding movement, the L085.1 SAX-O-MAT, which shows off its host of classical Glashüte flourishes behind a clear sapphire caseback. These include hand-polishing on the movement parts, a classical screw balance, a hand-engraved balance cock, and the Saxon-style three-quarter mainplate made of untreated German silver and embellished with a Glashütte wave motif. Aside from the obvious elements that set this watch apart as distinctive from its non-limited peers — the gray color of the solid silver dial, the shiny blue, hand-stitched alligator strap — there are a few touches that are less noticeable at first glance but sure to appeal to the brand’s discerning audience of aficionados. One is on the front of the watch: namely, in the aforementioned “outsize” date display. For the first time in a Saxonia model, the numerals are in a white font on a gray background, thus harmonizing seamlessly with the dial’s color scheme. The other is on the back side of the exposed movement, where the 21k gold bidirectional winding rotor, upon which the parts surrounding the embossed A. Lange & Söhne logo are plated in black rhodium and subsequently finished with a circular graining for a gilded effect. Outfitted with a centrifugal mass made of platinum for greater inertia, this uniquely decorated microrotor provides the watch its power reserve of 46 hours.
The exclusive U.S. Edition of the Saxonia Annual Calendar is limited to just 25 pieces and will be available only at A. Lange & Sohne boutiques in New York, Miami, and Costa Mesa.
