A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 Tourbillon Rounds Out the 25th Anniversary Collection in High-Horology Style

Throughout this year, A. Lange & Söhne has been releasing limited-edition watches to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its relaunch in 1994, and more specifically to celebrate that year’s launch of the original and iconic Lange 1. To cap off this milestone year, the German manufacture’s tenth and final release in the commemorative series will be the Lange 1 Tourbillon “25th Anniversary,” another famed piece that first debuted in Lange’s portfolio in 2000.

This special edition piece, like all Lange 1 Tourbillons, uses a three-day tourbillon movement, outsized date indicator, power-reserve indicator, and the classic Lange 1 case with its 10 o’clock cycling date adjustor. As has been the trend in the 25th Anniversary watches, the Lange 1 Tourbillon uses a silver-and-blue color scheme, with this watch’s 38.5-mm white-gold case protecting the solid silver, argenté-colored dial and its various blue and blued steel accents. On the right side of the dial we find the aforementioned power-reserve indicator, while on the right we find a shrunken hour-and-minute subdial marked with Roman numerals at each quarter hour, and an off-center running seconds subdial.

Blue details highlight the argenté-colored silver dial and its prominent tourbillon.

Toward the bottom right side of the dial we get a glimpse of the showcased tourbillon movement, the manually-wound L961.4 caliber produced in-house by A. Lange & Söhne. The hand-finished mechanism is also visible through a sapphire caseback, and in typical Lange fashion is beautifully decorated with hand engraving and black polishing. As is often remarked about the Lange 1 Tourbillon, it’s rather thin despite its use of the tourbillon mechanism, standing just 9.8 mm off the wrist and easily finding its way beneath a cuff. Like most of the other special editions in the “25th Anniversary” Lange 1 series, the Lange 1 Tourbillon will be limited to 25 pieces, and will be available through A. Lange & Söhne boutiques for $166,600.

About five years ago, A. Lange & Söhne was celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the rebirth of the brand  with another Lange 1 Tourbillon special edition, that model being the fourth piece in the brand’s history to earn their esteemed Handwerkskunst designation. Today, the Lange 1 Tourbillon caps another milestone year for the Saxon haute horology manufacturer, which has proclaimed it to be the crown of this anniversary series. A. Lange & Söhne has certainly come a long way since its humble relaunch in 1994, and likely to sustain its success for many years — and many more Lange 1 Tourbillon milestones — to come.

  2. Any idea what that sapphire disc is by the tourbillon with a blue 0 and 6 on it? I’ve read 5 plus articles on this release and nothing has mentioned it, neither does lange’s website

    • That disc is part of the date wheel. The original Lange 1 Tourbillon releases covered this up. Recent releases show it.
