A First Look at the Upcoming PRX Automatic from Tissot

This February, Tissot surprised the watch community with the Tissot PRX 40 205, a 40-mm stainless steel watch, based on a design from 1978, with an integrated bracelet, a flat, barrel-shaped case and solid caseback. The Tissot PRX almost immediately became available (or not, since Tissot had to set up waitlists in some cases), with a retail price of $375 (based on the ETA F06.115).

Luckily, the Le Locle-based watch brand hasn’t forgotten about adding a mechanical version as well:

The slightly thicker (10.8mm versus 10.4mm) mechanical version features an embossed dial, and will be available in three colors (shown here is the stainless steel version with blue dial).

The name PRX, according to the brand, stands for “Precise and Robust,” and “X” for 10 atmospheres (equivalent to 100 meters) of water resistance.

Compared to the slightly thinner battery-powered model, the automatic version also features an embossed waffle-pattern dial and a transparent caseback. Here’s a first look:

Movement is the Powermatic 80 with 80-hour power reserve.

The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 will be available this summer (June) with either a blue (Ref. T137.407.11.041.00) or black dial (Ref. T137.407.11.051.00). The third option (Ref. T137.407.21.031.00), shown here, comes with a silver dial, a gold PVD bezel and gold-colored indexes and hands (with a rather nice finish). This version will most likely retail at a slightly higher price, the stainless steel versions, however, should be available for CHF645 / €650 (still waiting for US list prices).
