Sprinting Forward: Breitling Unveils Endurance Pro Collection of SuperQuartz Sports Chronographs (Updated with Live Photos)

Debuting this week at the Geneva Watch Days event is a new collection from Swiss chronograph specialist Breitling. The new models, called Endurance Pro, are positioned as everyday “athleisure” sports chronographs, powered by Breitling’s thermo-compensated SuperQuartz movement, bearing colorful dial accents and straps, and housed in lightweight cases made from the brand’s proprietary Breitlight material.

The Endurance Pro joins Breitling’s Professional range of high-tech, multifunction tool watches (which also includes the Emergency and Aerospace Evo), its only collection powered entirely by SuperQuartz movements. Like many of its recent predecessors, it takes inspiration from a vintage model in Breitling’s archives, namely a 1970s classic called the Breitling Sprint. That watch combined a pulsometer (a function for athletes to monitor their heart rates) with a lightweight case made from resin and was produced in a variety of typically bold 1970s colors.

There are five colorway variations of the Endurance Pro — blue, orange, red, yellow, and white — each featuring a black-colored dial with a matching bidirectional rotating bezel engraved with compass points (N, S, E, and W). The five new references also follow in the footsteps of the 1970s Sprint models, with their inner bezels marked with a pulsometer scale.

The 44-mm-diameter chronograph watches come on a “Diver Pro” rubber strap that matches the colors on the inner bezel ring. Both the case and the straps’ double-pin buckle are produced from Breitlight, a proprietary polymer material that is 3.3 times lighter than titanium and 5.8 times lighter than stainless steel. Among its other attributes are exceptional resistance to scratches, traction, and corrosion; thermal stability; and antimagnetic and non-allergenic properties, in addition to being warmer to the touch than other metals and having a black-streaked surface texture. The non-screw-locked-crown is molded in the same colorway as the strap and inner bezel ring, offering the wearer “excellent grip and maneuverability.”

The arrow-shaped hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova, making them legible in limited lighting conditions. The chronograph seconds hand which tracks elapsed time is slightly thinner than its 1970s inspired model, but borrows a similar red coloring. The watch’s small-seconds subdial is at 6 o’clock, while the 1/10th-second and 30-minute chronograph counters lay across from one another at 2 and 10 o’clock.

Beating inside the Endurance Pro is the COSC-certified Caliber 82, whose “SuperQuartz” technology, according to Breitling, makes it “ten times more accurate than a conventional quartz movement,” and which offers a battery life of approximately 3-4 years.

The Breitling Endurance Pro is water-resistant to 100 meters (10 bar, or 330 feet) and comes with a two-year warranty. In addition to the “Diver Pro” rubber straps, the watches are available with the option of a NATO strap made of enviro-friendly ECONYL yarn, which can be purchased separately.
