WatchTime and Seiko Host Dinner Event in New York City

On December 8, at New York’s Sushi Nakazawa restaurant, Seiko Corporation of America partnered with WatchTime to offer an intimate experience with its Grand Seiko collection, the Japanese brand’s top-of-the-line family of quartz analog, mechanical, and Spring Drive watches, which have achieved cult status among collectors since they became available internationally in 2010.

The exclusive event, during which Grand Seiko watches were available for guests to handle and wear, focused on the Grand Seiko 8-Day Power Reserve, the first-ever Grand Seiko watch created by Seiko’s Micro Artist Studio. The evening began with a presentation by longtime WatchTime editor-in-chief (now editor-at-large) Joe Thompson, who has been on “the Seiko beat” ever since his first visit to Seiko in Tokyo in 1981. It concluded with an omakase dinner selected by renowned sushi chef Daisuke Nakazawa, protegé of Jiro Ono, the legendary chef profiled in the popular documentary “Jiro Dreams of Sushi.” Guests enjoyed Nakazawa-prepared delicacies such as soy marinated king salmon, Spanish mackerel, wild yellowtail, and California sea urchin.

Like the event held by Seiko and WatchTime on December 3 in Miami, the festivities were a showcase of fine Japanese cuisine with even finer Japanese horological craftsmanship. Scroll down for some photos from the evening.
