To celebrate leading acoustic guitar maker C.F. Martin & Co.’s 2 millionth guitar, RGM Watch Co., also based in Pennsylvania, helped create a one-of-a-kind model with a manual-wind RGM watch, based on the company’s Caliber 20, built into the headstock of the instrument. Both watch and guitar will be on display at WatchTime New York, America’s largest luxury watch event, starting this Friday, October 13.
The 2 millionth Martin guitar is a unique piece; RGM and Martin also collaborated on a 50-piece limited edition, the D-200 Deluxe, to celebrate the milestone. Each features the watch theme, including a pickguard that features pearl inlays of watch gears.
The watch, the RGM D200, features a solid, silver, hand-cut, engine-turned guilloché dial made in the U.S.A; blued steel hands; a 43.3-mm-diameter stainless steel case; and a 14K solid gold winding rotor. We presume the watch is powered by either an Omega 1120 movement or an ETA 2892. The list price is $149,999 for the guitar and watch set.
RGM founder, Roland Murphy, and C.F. Martin & Co. CEO, Chris Martin, will be onsite at the event, along with Martin’s Instrument Designer, Tim Teel, and Custom Shop Manager, Scott Sasser, to discuss the collaboration between the two companies. If you’re interested in seeing this one-of-a-kind timepiece and instrument — along with new timepieces from 29 other sponsoring brands — order your tickets now for WatchTime New York! In the meantime, check out the official “making of” video from Martin and RGM:
The watch is very nice. The guitar, however, is way to gaudy looking. Less would have been more.
This one peace of fine art that goes with fine guitar tihat will keep with times.
