Introducing the Oris Aquis Date Relief

Oris is no stranger to supporting conservation efforts. Over the past few years, we’ve seen a number of the brand’s releases in the Aquis collection focused on growing awareness for different water-related issues such as last year’s Clipperton to go along with previous entries like the Source of Life and Staghorn Coral Restoration editions. Oris is continuing this tradition in 2019 by launching the Oris Aquis Date Relief, its second release of the year so far.

Before getting into the watch’s specs, here’s a little on what exactly the Aquis Date Relief is trying to accomplish conservation-wise. Oris has partnered with the expedition swimmer Ernst Bromeis for this release to raise awareness for our most important natural resource, water. Our oceans, as well as our freshwater lakes and rivers, are rapidly changing for the worse due to the presence of plastics and other pollutants. The World Health Organization estimates that 3.4 million people die each year due to water-related diseases that are completely preventable. With Oris’ support, Bromeis is launching an initiative in 2019 called “The Blue Miracle.” Throughout the year he will travel the globe and swim across some of the largest freshwater lakes, starting with Siberia’s Lake Baikal, the world’s largest and deepest freshwater lake, with the Aquis Date Relief on his wrist in order to raise awareness for the issues plaguing our bodies of water.

The Oris Aquis Date Relief carries over many of the identifying attributes of the brand’s popular line of divers. For fans of Oris and the Aquis, the big news here will center on the fact that this is the first Aquis to feature a bezel in relief, meaning that the Arabic numerals and scale on the watch’s stainless steel bezel are rendered three-dimensionally rather than flat against the surface. The details from the core Aquis Date line that carry over range from the size, 43.5 mm, to the movement, automatic Oris caliber 733 that uses a Sellita SW 200-1 with a 38-hour power reserve for its base. Water resistance remains at a robust 300 meters.

Another detail that helps the Aquis Date Relief stand out in relation to the rest of the collection is the bright red seconds hand which serves as a nice complement to the red rubber strap option pictured in this article. The Aquis Date has become a sort-of tentpole collection for Oris’ large range of dive watches with over 30 different iterations of the classic Aquis Date, not including separate releases such as the Aquis Big Day Date, Aquis Titanium Date, and Aquis Small Seconds Date. In other words, the new model not only adds to the growing Aquis “Conservation Collection,” but also continues to build out the diverse range with its new unidirectional bezel design.

The model we photographed comes on an attractive bright red rubber strap for $1,800. There’s also the option for a gray rubber strap for the same price, a dark brown leather strap for $1,850, or a stainless-steel bracelet for $2,000.

  2. Rolex YM can’t do 300m. Can’t beat that stylish rubber strap on the Oris either!

The similarity to the Rolex YachtMaster is shameful. Oris is a good brand with original pieces. They downgrade themselves copying Rolex like many other brands do.

    • The Relief bezel is not new for ORIS. They have used it for their Big Crown Diver models in the 90’s. It is not a direct copy of the Yatch-Master.

  4. Lack of ability (not mentioned in the article) to fit after-market straps rules it out for me, sadly.
