Firing the Starting Gun: Omega Releases Two Watches for Next Year’s Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo

As of yesterday, there is exactly one year to go until the opening ceremonies of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games hosted in Tokyo. Omega, as the Olympic’s longtime official timekeeper, has started the countdown by releasing two limited-edition timepieces inspired by the upcoming global sporting event: the Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition and the Seamaster Planet Ocean Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition.

Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition

The Seamaster Aqua Terra Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition seeks inspiration from the event’s emblem with its ceramic blue dial – a first for the collection. The 41-mm stainless steel case comes with a structured blue rubber strap and an additional stainless-steel bracelet. It is driven by the Omega Master Chronometer Caliber 8900. The highlight is the laser-engraved Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games emblem on the caseback. The new watch is limited to 2,020 pieces and is priced at $6,300.

The Seamaster Planet Ocean Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition is inspired by, as you might guess, the Japanese flag. The 39.5-mm stainless steel timepiece holds a white ceramic bezel ring with the diving scale constructed of Omega’s proprietary Liquidmetal. As a tribute to the host country’s year, the number 20 on the bezel is filled with red liquid ceramic. The dial is made of white ceramic with a Tokyo-themed special lollipop central seconds hand with a varnished red dot as its tip, a direct reference to the Japanese flag . Also limited to 2,020 pieces, the Seamaster Planet Ocean Tokyo 2020 Limited Edition houses the Omega Master Chronometer Caliber 8800 and features a sapphire crystal caseback with a transferred Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games symbol. Similar to the Aqua Terra, the Planet Ocean comes with strap variations – a white leather strap, a stainless steel bracelet, and an additional NATO strap. It is priced at $7,450.

The Planet Ocean is a bit too white for my taste but still an amazing watch. The Aqua Terra I really like. The dial design is great
