Bulova Unveils Special-Edition Grammy Watches Ahead of 59th Grammy Awards

Bulova kicks off its new partnership with the Recording Academy, host of the Annual Grammy Awards — along with the Latin Recording Academy and the Grammy Museum — with three Special Edition Grammy timepieces, released just ahead of the 59th Grammy Awards this weekend. Here is what you need to know about the new watches.

Bulova’s Special Edition Grammy watches come from the brand’s Precisionist collection, which debuted in 2010. Precisionist watches are outfitted with the Bulova-exclusive, three-prong quartz crystal Precisionist movement, which vibrates at a frequency of 262 kHz, fully eight times faster than a standard quartz watch movement. An industry first, the Precisionist movement is notable for its continuously sweeping seconds hand, which beats 16 times per second (for more on the Precisionist movement, click here), and its 4-eye, 12-hour chronograph function, providing accurate timing to 1/1000th of a second.

The watches’ 46.5 cases are in matte black IP stainless steel, with black and gold accents. The dial, which features a calendar function at 3 o’clock, is adorned with musical motifs, including sound wave patterns and the legendary Grammys gramophone logo in gold — an image that also appears on the gold-colored caseback, along with the words “Grammy Awards Special Edition.” The dials — which feature either a black or gold-colored minute track — are topped by a curved sapphire crystal. The case is 14.8 mm thick and water-resistant to 300 meters. Prices are $695 for the version with golden minute track and rubber strap; $750 for gold minute track and black leather strap; and $850 for black minute track with black steel bracelet (pictured).

Bulova president calls the Special Edition watches “just a glimpse of what is to come for our musical collaboration” with the Recording Academy, so it is likely that more Grammy-influenced timepieces are on the horizon.

It is always fun to see the exotic watches of the rich and famous, but it is kind of nice to see some Bulova watches that we can actually wear. I recently got a Precisionist Champlain, and they are very cool watches. They are big, and weigh a pound, which makes them ultra cool. I was worried that the black would scratch, but it seems to be holding up well. I think, for the money, the watch is well worth it. Great article, have a great day!
