Haute Joaillerie Meets Precision: Grand Seiko Launches Limited Spring Drive Masterpiece SBGD213 “Blue GS Lion”

Since the introduction of the first Grand Seiko in 1960, the profile of the lion – then engraved on the case back – has been a recurring symbol of the Japanese luxury brand. The latest Spring Drive Masterpiece reflects this tradition through magnificent high jewelry craftsmanship. It is limited to just eight pieces.

The 44.5mm-sized platinum case and the dial are set with 5.62 carats of diamonds and 1.25 carats of blue sapphires, set by hand. 112 diamonds are embedded on the surface, while another 60 baguette-cut diamonds adorn the bezel. On the dial, blue sapphires and baguette diamonds serve as hour and minute markers surrounding the inner ring made of blue mother-of-pearl. The crown features a single brilliant-cut blue sapphire.

All these precious stones are carefully set by the master jewelry artisans between two ultra-thin rails of 18-karat white gold at the Shinshu Watch Studio at the Shiojiri factory in Nagano Prefecture, where the Grand Seiko Spring Drive watches are manufactured.

The Spring Drive caliber 9R01 ensures a precision of ±10 seconds per month and a power reserve of eight days or 192 hours, thanks to its three serially arranged barrels. The sapphire crystal case back displays likewise displays beautiful craftsmanship, with the plate recalling the shape of Mt. Fuji, Japan’s highest mountain.

Pricing for the limited edition Grand Seiko Spring Drive Masterpiece is marked at $260,000.
