Announced last week, G-Shock has added a new collection of analog-digital timekeepers to its expansive catalog. Christened the GA-140 series, this new line builds on the large case dimensions of the popular GA-100/110 family with a refreshed design and colorways that reference ’90s musical nostalgia like boomboxes, Walkmans, and Moog synthesizers.
The updated dial appearance has more depth than the previous GA-100/110 series and offers a number of complications, including a 1/1000-second stopwatch that works in tandem with the average speed indicator subdial at 3 o’clock (similar in function to a tachymeter); chronographic abilities including elapsed time, split time, and lap time; a digital time subdial at 12 o’clock for a second time zone (48 city options, plus UTC); and day and date in the 6 o’clock display. Other traditional G-Shock attributes are included like enhanced shock resistance, the ability to set up to four daily alarms, a 24-hour countdown timer, an LED light, and magnetic resistance specced to the ISO 764 standard. Additionally, the time display can be switched between 12/24 hour formats and the watches are water resistant up to 200 meters.
The five new watches come in a variety of color options such as black (GA140-1A1), black with red and orange accents (GA140- 1A4), blue (GA140-2A), red and gray (GA140-4A), and purple (GA140-6A). Four of the five timepieces feature positive LCD displays, while the blacked-out GA140-1A1 brings forward a reverse/negative LCD display. All five watches in the GA-140 line will be priced at $99 and will hit physical retailers this August.
None of the brief descriptions available for this watch includes the Band Length. I have a 8.5-inch wrist diameter and most watches are made for children’s wrists.
