WatchTime’s November-December Issue is On Sale Now!

WatchTime Nov-Dec 2013 CoverThe November-December issue of WatchTime is on newsstands now (and on Nook, Kindle, and the WatchTime app for iOS and Android), featuring an exclusive watch test of the Rolex Sky-Dweller, a compendium of Rolex’s watch milestones, profiles of Oris and Vacheron Constantin, and more. Click here for highlights from the issue…

• In our cover story, “Living High,” Jens Koch tests Rolex’s recently introduced luxury watch for frequent fliers, the Oyster Perpetual Sky-Dweller, which features a GMT function and annual calendar. Find out what he thought of the watch, the first entirely new Rolex model launched in several years.

• In the companion piece to the cover feature, “Rolex Milestones,” watch expert Gisbert Brunner explores the red-letter moments in the brand’s 108-year history, including such game-changers as the development of the Oyster case in 1926, the first Perpetual movement in 1931, and the debuts of classic Rolex watches such as the Submariner, Milgauss and Daytona.

• Mike Disher puts three other timepieces through the WatchTime test gauntlet, getting under the hoods of the Zenith Pilot Montre d’Aeronef Type 20 Annual Calendar (in “Big Time”), the Perrelet Turbine Chrono (in “Turbine Timer”), and the Girard-Perregaux Chrono Hawk (in “Eyeing the Hawk.”) Robert Atkinson provides the original photography,

• Norma Buchanan profiles Oris CEO Ulrich Herzog, who took over the brand during the dark days of the quartz crisis and has steered it to an all-mechanical future, in “Mechanical Man.”

• Joe Thompson reveals the story behind Detroit-based Shinola Watch Co. and the savvy gang of watch veterans who are out to make the Motor City “the new watchmaking capital of America.”

• Plus: the inside story on Vacheron Constantin’s Patrimony Contemporaine Caliber 1731, a look at new top-of-the-line mechanical watches from Citizen, a visit to the Smithsonian’s new ‘Time and Navigation” exhibit of vintage timepieces, and a photo essay featuring some of this year’s most notable moon-phase watches.

  1. The December content here sounds interesting, but the iPad’s preview only shows the front cover and three double-spread advertisements. My thought is that casual visitors may be more likely to purchase if the preview has some editorial content, and so ending the preview part way through a review might enhance sales.
