WatchTime’s January-February Issue is On Sale Now!

WatchTime Jan-Feb 2014 CoverThe January-February issue of WatchTime is on newsstands now (and on Nook, Kindle, and the WatchTime app for iOS and Android), featuring in-depth watch tests of the IWC Ingenieur Automatic AMG Black Series Ceramic, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe, and Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon NEDU, a reference guide to the watch industry’s quality marks, a gallery of blue-dial beauties, and more. Click here for highlights from the issue…

• In our cover story, “One for the Road,” Jens Koch tests the auto-racing influenced IWC Ingenieur AMG Black Series Ceramic in an altogether appropriate setting: inside the cockpit of a Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster. Nik Scholzel provides the original photography.

• Mike Disher examines two other timepieces — Blancpain’s new, vintage styled Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe in “In Depth,” and Ball’s “muscular tool watch,” the Engineer Hydrocarbon NEDU, in “Power Tool.” Robert Akinson provides the photography, as well as exclusive videos, for both. (Click here to watch the Blancpain video and here to watch the Ball video.)

• Disher also pens an informative piece for prospective chronograph watch buyers: “Buying a Chrono? 10 Things to Know.” The article outlines 10 factors to consider before selecting (and shelling out cash for) a chronograph, to make sure that it suits your individual wants and needs.

• In “Seals and Certs,” Jay Deshpande offers a detailed look at the different testing regimens for various watch-industry quality marks, from well-known ones like the COSC certificate and the Geneva Seal to the individual seals of brands such as Seiko and Patek Philippe.

• In “Fossil’s Swiss Mission,” Norma Buchanan explores why Fossil, the king of Asian-made fashion watches, has been making more and more watches in Switzerland.

• Plus: a photo essay showcasing the year’s hottest color trend, blue on dials, bezels, and straps; a review of the Fortis F-3 Pilot’s Chronograph Alarm GMT Chronometer; a year-end quiz on watch-industry news; the latest on the Swatch Group-COMCO movement controversy; and more.
