WatchTime Jan-Feb 2019 cover
  • Mark Bernardo goes “Beneath the Lunar Surface” in a hands-on review of the Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 Edition, whose laser-engraved, skeletonized movement, based on the very first “Moonwatch” caliber from 1969, takes the ceramic-cased version of the Speedy to new heights.
  • In “Globetrotter from Glashütte,” Logan R. Baker spends some time with the Glashütte original Senator Cosmopolite in stainless steel, and reveals how its straightforward functionality demonstrates the brand’s fundamental — and very Teutonic — approach to practical luxury.
  • Jens Koch offers an in-depth look at Breitling’s “Navitimer Reboot” in a test of the Navitimer 8 B01 Chronograph 43, an updated version of the classic pilots’ watch without the famous navigation slide-rule function, with original photos by Olaf Köster.
  • In “Getting a ‘Round,'” veteran watch journalist and author Roberta Naas explores the new Patek Philippe Twenty-4 Automatic collection, a series of elegant round-cased watches for ladies with cushion-cornered edges and supple, integrated bracelets.
  • Martina Richter reviews the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Automatic — the fourth-generation version of the 1970s luxury sports-watch whose name translates to “Graduate” — in “Class Reunion.” Olaf Koster provides original photography of the watch and its new movement, Caliber GP01800-008.
  • “Outlaw Connoisseur” Antonio Jaramillo, who co-stars on FX’s motorcycle club drama series “Mayans MC” went from selling watches at Tiffany & Co. to acting in stage play, TV, and movies. In our exclusive interview, the Mexican-born actor reveals how he has continued his pursuit of horological knowledge while assembling his eclectic watch collection.
  • In our latest installment of auction-world news features from the specialists at Christie’s, Sabine Kegel, international watch specialist, explains what caused a Serpico y Latino-signed Patek Philippe Ref. 2499 to blow past its estimate and become Christie’s highest-performing watch of 2018 at $3.3 million.
  • For everyone who couldn’t make it to WatchTime New York 2018, America’s biggest watch collector event, which our team hosted last fall, we offer a special insert covering all of the exhibiting watch brands and their highlight pieces at the show, reviews of the presentations and panel discussions, and exclusive on-site pictures from the two days of festivities at Manhattan’s Gotham Hall.
  • Plus: a selection of annual calendar watches to kick off the New Year; a review of Frederique Constant’s Hybrid Manufacture and its “3.0” smart technology; a historical retrospective of Germany’s Mühle Glashütte, which marks 150 years in 2019; a pictorial recap of WatchTime’s Reader Trips to Switzerland and Germany; a chat with Carl F. Bucherer CEO Sascha Moeri; and more.
  • You can buy the issue here for $8.95.
