Certina: The Return of the DS-2 (with Live Photos)

Swiss watch brand Certina is bringing back one of the signature models of its past, the DS-2 from 1968, a watch that became famous for its ultra-robust “Double Security” construction (the movement is encased entirely in an elastic shock absorber ring, and the crown sealed with two o-rings).

Like its predecessor from the 1960s, the modern DS-2 is water resistant to 200 m. The typical “turtle” caseback, hovewer, has been replaced with a transparent caseback. On the dial side, Certina is using a sapphire crystal, the diameter of the case is 40 mm (height = 12.65 mm). Movement is the Powermatic 80.611 with 80-hour power reserve.

Certina offers four dial colors for the DS-2, black (Ref. C024.407.11.051.00), silver (Ref. C024.407.18.031.00), blue (Ref. C024.407.18.041.00) or brown/dark gray (Ref. C024.407.18.041.00). Prices start at CHF 860/€860 (with textile strap). Photos:
