7. Patek Philippe Reference 1518
Older, vintage Patek Philippe watches also sold well, like this reference, manufactured in 1946. It’s another chronograph-perpetual calendar-moon-phase wristwatch in an 18k gold case and with a matte silvered dial. This model fetched $341,000.
Chanel is a watch brand not often found among top-selling auction watches, but this one, a limited edition Chanel J12 watch with a white-gold and ceramic case, set a new auction record for this watch model. It’s set with diamonds and rubies and contains an automatic movement. The final price was $293,000.
9. Patek Philippe, Reference 5959
One more Patek Philippe made the top 10, this one in a platinum case and featuring a split-seconds chronograph function. This white-dialed model, manufactured in 2005, sold for $293,000.
10. Audemars Piguet – John Bennett
The only pocketwatch in Christie’s top 10, this Audemars Piguet has an 18k gold hunter case and features an array of complications, including a minute repeater (with both grand and petit sonnerie), perpetual calendar, chronograph, and moon-phases. Estimated at $70,000 – $100,000, the watch achieved a final price of $269,000.
Always amazed how PP and Rolex maintain and increase their value along with time.
Some of the auctioned watches are truly outstanding, the buyers are really fortunate people to be the owners of these great watches!
Thank you for the fine report!
Merry Christmas to you and every member of the Watchtime Team as well as your loved ones!
