Stowa Flieger Blue Limited

German watch manufacturer Stowa has teamed up with WatchTime.net — the online home of WatchTime’s German sister publications Chronos and Uhren Magazin — to produce this all-new special-edition timepiece, the Stowa Flieger Blue Limited, of which only 100 pieces will be available.

The Stowa Flieger Blue Limited is a modern reinterpretation of the historical Stowa Fliegerwatch, which the Black Forest-based brand began making for pilots in 1938 (“Flieger” is German for “plane”). The watch’s distinguishing feature is a gleaming blue dial, whose color is derived from the use of electroplating and a decorative sunburst finish. The Arabic hour numerals and indices, as well as the blued steel hands, are treated with Super-LumiNova C3 for a high level of legibility in the dark.

The stainless steel, handmatted case measures a contemporary 40 mm in diameter and 10.2 mm thick. It features a domed sapphire crystal over the dial (and an additional crystal in the back displaying the movement) and a vintage-style grooved winding crown, and offers a water resistance of 50 meters (164 feet).

The Stowa Flieger Blue Limited contains an automatic, “Top”-grade ETA 2824-2 movement, which has been enhanced with a special rotor, handmade by Stowa, with engraving in the style of historical B-watches; the watch’s edition number (1 through 100) is engraved on the rotor. This Swiss-made movement has a frequency of 28,800 vph, 25 jewels, and a 40-hour power reserve. Its haute horlogerie finishes include rhodium plating and blued screws.
