Seiko Presage Automatic 60th Anniversary Limited Edition

In 1956, Seiko introduced the world to the first Japanese-made, self-winding mechanical wristwatch. Sixty years later, the brand pays homage to that historic timepiece with a limited edition from its new, all-mechanical Presage collection.

The Seiko Automatic 60th Anniversary Limited Edition (Ref. SARW027) replicates much of the design of the 1956 Seiko Automatic, including the curved, pale ivory dial; simple, applied golden indices; and faceted, triangular golden hands. Two new elements have been added, in the form of an arc-shaped, 45-hour power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock; and a date subdial at 6 o’clock. In another modern twist on the original, Seiko’s “Snake S” emblem, which adorned the dial of the 1956 watch, is used here as an engraving on the grooved winding crown.

The stainless steel case measures 40.5 mm in diameter and is water-resistant to 100 meters. In the front is a dual-curved sapphire crystal with nonreflective coating; in the back is a screwed down exhibition caseback offering a view of the automatic movement, Seiko Caliber 6R27, and its solid gold rotor. The movement has 29 jewels and a 28,800-vph frequency; according to Seiko, it boasts a timekeeping accuracy of -15 to +25 seconds per day.

  1. I was lucky to buy one from the Miami Seiko Boutique. It was just released from hold, customer could not come it in to look at it. I bought it sight unseen. Buying from the boutique gives an extra year on the warranty. I had been looking for one for nearly a month. It gained 4 seconds the first day. Since then it has lost 1 to 3 seconds a day for the month I have owned it. The manual suggests it will run better if keep fully wound which I do, it stays fully wound if you are active. I have measured it in various positions, crown up, down, etc. and of course wearing it. Don’t see much difference. -1 to 4 sec a day. The 4 sec was on a day that I did a lot of snow shoveling, forgot I had it on, didn’t make much difference. Love the simple elegance. Very comfortable on the wrist, east to read, love the big second hand and the smooth fast motion, if you watch closely you can see the minute hand move. For the price it is a bargain. They are selling at over $1500.00 on some of the Japanese listings. It will go up in value. It is my favorite watch today.

Please confirm if Presage anniversary’s rotor is solid gold. I have a feeling it is gold plated or gold filled for the given price. Thank you.

I thought exactly the same thing when I read it. My guess is that it is gold plated

I believe the rotor of the automatic is not made of solid gold, as written. It is made of steel with yellow gold pvd coating. Otherwise, the price of the watch would not be US 1,100, but higher.

    • I just bought a non limited version less than a month ago. The accuracy is remarkable, loses less than one or two of a second a day. The winding is silky smooth. It is more accurate than watches 4 or more times the price. Love the Arabic hour marks more than the stick index in the Limited Edition, but love the gold. Both the gold hands here and the blue hands in mine are very elegant.

I’ve bought one and it is the most accurate watch I own. It is 10 seconds fast in almost a month. This watch is simply gorgeous.

“according to Seiko, it boasts a timekeeping accuracy of -15 to +25 seconds per day”

That has to be a mistake. I’d send a watch keeping time that bad back to the factory for proper adjustment. American railroad watches well over a hundred years ago were required to keep to a minute a month, two seconds/day. It’s bad even according to other Seiko watches. -15 to +25 seconds per day is nothing to boast about. It must an error in reporting accuracy. The only thing good about a rating like this is the great pun it just generated.

    • Even their Grand Seikos list this kind of accuracy. Either they are trying to be ultra conservative, or something else. I was surprised too.
