Video: How Blancpain’s Carrousel Was Born

Blancpain is unique in the world of watchmaking, as it is the only house that has mastered the art of placing a carrousel in a wristwatch. Carrousels were originally conceived to defy gravity and the associated rate errors incurred when the watch is in a vertical position. How did the idea for this component come about and how does it differ from a similar invention, the tourbillon?

As we discover in this exclusive video, a Danish watchmaker working in Coventry, England in 1892 wanted to create a device similar to the tourbillon but wanted to avoid the patent awarded to its originator, Abraham-Louis Breguet. He called the resulting invention the Carrousel. You can learn more about it here.
