RADO

Rado is a Swiss watch brand. Rado’s predecessor, Schlup Co., was founded in 1917 who then formed Rado in the 1950s. When the Rado Diastar watch hit the market in 1962 the brand increased the watch sales significantly as the Rado Diastar was the first scratch-resistant timepiece – it is still in production and available today.

Since then Rado has experimented with a number of technologies and materials, among them tungsten, titanium, sapphire crystal and lanthanum. Since 1968 Rado belongs to what is today know as Swatch Group (formerly ASUAG, SSIH, SMH). The Rado watches price list ranges from below $1,000 to more than $200,000. Popular models are the Rado Jubile waches, Rado Ceramica, Rado Pezdir.

Colorful Captains: The Rado Captain Cook Automatic Collection

One of Rado’s most popular releases of recent years is also one of its most “off the beaten path” in terms of design and theme: the Hyperchrome Captain Cook, based on a heretofore obscure 1960s diving watch and eschewing Rado’s more modernist aesthetics in favor of a vintage-retro look. The latest expansion of the Captain...

A New Captain Sets Sail: Rado Tradition Captain Cook MKII Automatic Limited Edition

Rado is rightly regarded by most knowledgeable watch aficionados as a very avant-garde, design-oriented brand, but it has gained substantial renown in recent years for going retro — introducing the Hyperchrome Captain Cook, named for the famed British naval explorer and inspired by a nearly forgotten 1960s dive watch, to critical acclaim in 2017. Rado’s...

Vintage Eye for the Modern Guy: Rado Tradition Captain Cook MKIII Automatic

In 2017, Swiss brand Rado released its Hyperchrome Captain Cook to critical acclaim. The piece, based on a series produced in small quantities from 1962 to 1968 and originally meant to capitalize on the recreational diving trend of that era, was a faithful re-issue of the vintage model, and for the brand marked a dynamic...
