COUNTDOWN TO WTLA:

What You Need to Know About WatchTime Los Angeles

WatchTime Los Angeles is this weekend and we hope you’re just as excited as we are! Since this is the first time we’ve hosted the event on the West Coast after five extremely successful years in New York, we figured our attending guests will have some questions. We’ve gathered a list of our most frequently asked questions and answered them here for everyone to see. If you have a question that isn’t answered here, shoot us a note at events@watchtime.com and we’d be more than happy to answer it.

What’s different about WatchTime Los Angeles?

WatchTime Los Angeles is a special event we are producing to introduce collectors to 27 luxury watch brands, to celebrate watchmaking, and to reinforce the culture of watch collecting in the United States. Our goal is to make watch events entertaining and educational for our audience! Not to mention, WatchTime LA will be the largest gathering of independent watch brands ever assembled on the West Coast!

Is WatchTime Los Angeles a trade show?

No. While we will have booths for the brands to display their timepieces, it is more about having a special experience with like-minded people who are just as crazy about watches as we are. On Friday night we host a four-hour VIP party celebrating all of the special watches that our sponsors are showcasing. Saturday is a free-flowing event with panels and presentations by watch experts. This is not, we repeat not, a trade show!

Can’t I just go to a retailer to see the watches instead?

We encourage you to support local retailers, but our event is a horological experience that offers far more than simply walking into a boutique to look at watches. At WTLA, you will meet the watchmakers who create the timepieces and speak directly with brand executives and founders. In addition, we have gathered a very strong collection of brands all under the same roof!

Who will be there? And is it cool to come alone?

If you choose to fly solo, you will be in great company! You can expect to meet fellow watch collectors and enthusiasts from California and other states. Friday night we suggest cocktail attire/dress to impress and don’t be afraid to accessorize with multiple watches!

What does my Friday night ticket include for $150?

Purchasing a ticket to the Friday night party includes access to a top-shelf open bar for the entire four-hour duration, exclusive cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, food stations, free valet parking, a Lyft discount code if you’re not driving, an entrance pass for Saturday, and first access to the latest timepieces launched at SIHH and Baselworld.

What’s the difference between Friday and Saturday tickets?

A Friday night ticket provides you access to all of the above, plus access to the Saturday showcase. A Saturday-only ticket is for the all-day show, which including three watch-centric panels, talks and more.

What’s happening on Saturday? What time should I get there?

In addition to more quality time with all of our sponsors, we will have a special presentation on chronographs by our longtime event partner Jeff Kingston, a panel with independent watchmakers hosted by WatchBox’s Tim Mosso, and a round-table discussion with Hollywood VIPs who will discuss watch collecting in the world’s entertainment capital, watches in the movies and more. The first panel begins at 10:30 a.m.; the show opens at 11 a.m. We highly recommend not to miss either the panels or Jeff’s presentation.

Is this like Inside Basel/Geneva?

Yes in that we have gathered a really strong lineup of brands and Jeff Kingston is a partner. However, the format is completely different from that of IBG. WTLA offers more time to experience the watches and speak with the brands instead of having to sit for a long meal. WTLA takes place over two days rather than a single night.

Who are the watchmakers in attendance?

You will meet with Kari Voutilainen, Romain Gauthier, and Roland G. Murphy, who will be representing their own brands. Aside from these eponymous watchmakers, Armin Strom, Bovet, Christophe Claret, Cyrus, Czapek, De Bethune, MB&F, F.P. Journe, Moritz Grossmann, HYT, and Greubel Forsey will be some of the indie brands at the show represented by executives and brand employees.
