Timex and Todd Snyder Team Up for Another Sub-$200 Vintage-Look Watch

Who says we’re not versatile here at WatchTime? Yesterday, we showed you Richard Mille’s ultra-complex RM 25-01, designed in collaboration with Sylvester Stallone, with a price tag just shy of a million dollars. Today, we’re showcasing another joint collaboration way down at the other end of the price spectrum, namely the latest vintage-look piece to emerge from mass-market Timex’s partnership with menswear designer Todd Snyder. Here’s all you need to know about the Timex + Todd Snyder Beekman.

Timex + Todd Snyder Beekman watches

The watch is a contemporary reissue of a late-1960s racing-inspired model that Snyder, a classic car enthusiast, discovered while combing through Timex’s 160-plus-year archive. It is notable for the vintage-style curlicue tachymeter scale in the center of the dial, a feature designed to gauge the speed of a moving object, like a racecar on a track, over a predetermined distance. At 40 mm in diameter, the stainless steel case is designed for modern tastes and water-resistant to 30 meters. Over the dial is a domed acrylic crystal, which brings the watch’s overall thickness to 12 mm.

The Beekman’s quartz movement is not equipped with a chronograph function, so the method of operating the tachymeter is decidedly old-school. At the start of a racing lap, pull the crown out while the seconds hand is at 12 o’clock, thus stopping the seconds hand. As the car passes the starting line, push the crown back in, re-starting it. Finally, at the end of the course, pull the crown back out as the car crosses the finish line. The position of the seconds hand against the swirling tachymeter scale will determine the miles per hour. (And thanks to Timex’s patented IndiGlo night-light function — which illuminates the entire dial at a push of the crown — you can even use it at night.) The old-fashioned tachymeter is a fun little feature even if you choose never to actually use it, as it gives the watch a distinctive period look.

The Timex + Todd Snyder Beekman is offered in two colorways, one with a cream-colored dial and a reddish brown croco-pattern leather strap, the other with a black dial and matching black leather strap. Each is priced at $158. While the watches are not limited editions, they are exclusively available at the Todd Snyder flagship store in New York or online at www.toddsnyder.com.

Loved both colourways of these watches at first sigh l bought them both from Amazon in Sydney Australia l grew up in Sydney in the 60’s and 70’s with every second person wearing either seiko’s or Timex’s these watches remind me of my childhood they are authentic of 60’s style watches and there beautifully executed and with every penny they feel like real watches unlike luxury watches of today which pretty hideous $ 1000000 for a Richard Millie mtal and plastic monstrosity ?Fool’s and their money…..l’ll take the timex, thanks !

I wonder which watch (Richard Mille’s ultra-complex RM 25-01, with a price tag just shy of a million dollars, or the $200 Timex – Todd Snyder) will provide the most accurate time? My best guess would be the Timex!
