Showing at WatchTime New York 2022: Arnold & Son Luna Magna Platinum Meteorite

WatchTime New York 2022 is now less than two week away, with the exciting horological event making its seventh annual return to Midtown Manhattan’s Gotham Hall on October 21-23. Joined by industry professionals and expert panelists, it is a great opportunity for guests to have an inside experience with the year’s most coveted releases from over 30 participating brands.

Bringing its Luna Magna Platinum Meteorite model to WatchTime New York this year is Swiss watchmaker Arnold & Son. The cosmic-inspired reference is the follow up to the original Luna Magna released last year. With a spherical depiction of the moon integrated into the dial, Arnold & Son experiments with unusual materials, textures, and designs for its newest reference.

On the wrist, the cool-toned watch is supported by a sleek round silhouette and secured by a hand-sewn, gray alligator leather strap. The exterior of the watch is made from platinum, measuring 44mm in diameter and wearing 15.9mm high. The subdued precious metal shine of the case turns into anti-reflective sapphire on the reverse, there revealing the inner workings of the watch.

Taking inspiration from the “ever-changing moon,” Arnold & Son opts for a meteorite material from the octahedrite class for the dial. The material is PVD treated in a gray-beige coating, revealing jagged, crisscrossing structures that create a textured, geometric backdrop for the dial.

The true focal point is the spherical moon in the 6 o’clock position that is made from sand-colored meteorite and Caholong opal and rotates to reflect the sky in real-time. That said, the main time dial is at 12 o’clock, sporting a white opal backdrop with blue hands ticking above. Both the opaline side of the lunar globe and the time dial are coated in Super-LumiNova, making them glow blue-green in the dark.

Inside the case, Arnold & Son opts for the manual winding, mechanical caliber A&S1021. The mechanism was specifically designed for the inclusion of the lunar globe, which is visible via exhibition caseback. Above the lunar globe on the caseback side is a secondary display that indicates the age of the moon relative to its cycle with legible markings that are designed for the ease of precise adjustments. Correcting the time and moon phase are made possible by the easily operable crown in the 3 o’clock position.

The Arnold & Son Luna Magna Platinum Meteorite is available via the brand’s website retailing for CHF 70,900 including tax (approximately $71,600) with the price subject to change. The watch is a limited edition of 28 pieces.
