Patek Philippe Drops New Variant of the Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph

As part of its fall debutantes, Patek Philippe announced a new take on its sought-after Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph. This sought-after icon is a great example for the technical evolution of this watch family that was started by the iconic Nautilus in 1976. On its 30th anniversary, the Nautilus Flyback Chronograph (Ref. 5980/1) was premiered. This model was joined in 2014 by Ref. 5990/1, Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph, initially offered in a steel version (5990/1A-001) and complemented in 2021 by a rose gold version (5990/1R-001).

As the successor to the 5990/1A-001, Patek Philippe offers a new take on the steel version by combining it with a new blue dial featuring a radiant sunburst pattern and a black-gradient rim. With perfect legibility in mind, this dial is enhanced by the horizontally embossed motif typical of Nautilus watches and is adorned with applied hour markers and white gold rounded baton-style hands, all with luminescent coating.

The case, water-resistant to 120 m, octagonal bezel, chronograph pushers (at 2 and 4 o’clock), local time pushers (at 9 o’clock) and steel bracelet are enhanced by elegantly alternating polished and satin finishes. Ref. 5990/1A has a diameter of 40.5mm and is 12.5mm thick.

The watch is driven by the self-winding CH 28-520 C FUS caliber combining three complications: a column-wheel controlled flyback chronograph with a vertical disk clutch, a dual time zone with two central hour hands, one of which is skeletonized for home time, and a pointer date which is coupled with the local time. The central chronograph hand can also be used as a running seconds display.

The Ref. 5990/1A is presented on a steel bracelet with a patented Patek Philippe fold-over clasp, secured by four independent catches, and equipped with a new lockable adjustment system that makes it possible to gain 2 or 4mm in length.

Pricing is marked at  $68,603.
