From WWII to the Golden Age of Rock ‘n’ Roll: 5 New Graham Chronofighter Vintage Nose Art Watches

Last year, Graham rolled out the Chronofighter Vintage Nose Art collection, a quartet of military-aviation-inspired, limited-edition timepieces with classical pin-up girl dials that echo the fuselage art on Allied warplanes of World War II. This year, the brand named for pioneering London clockmaker George Graham, and known widely for its cockpit-style chronograph designs, launched another series, this time with a 1950s spin.

Four of the five ladies depicted on the new models are more emblematic of the post-War rock ‘n’ roll ’50s than the wartime ’40s, taking the Vintage Nose Art collection, Graham says, into a new era representing “the inspiring sounds that captivated 1940s and 1950s dance floors.” Gracing the four new dials are the vinyl-record-spinning “Belle,” rug-cutting “Linda,” flamenco-guitar-playing “Lucia,” and pink-clad Moulin Rouge girl “Chloe.” The dial colors, all with sunbrushed finishes, are charcoal gray for Belle, black for Linda, and blue for both Lucia and Chloe.

The fifth new Chronofighter Vintage model stands on its own as not only representative of warplane nose art but also a celebration of the Chinese New Year — the year of the Dog, to be exact, which officially began on February 16, 2018, and which has been commemorated by several other watchmakers (you can see some of those models here). This dial’s hand-painted lady, “Kelly,” demurely reclines on the sunburst midnight blue dial, clad in a traditional Cheongsam dress and accompanied by a faithful Samoyed dog, positioned between 3 o’clock and 4 o’clock on the dial, a reference to two of the year’s lucky numbers. Kelly’s signature appears at 9 o’clock, 9 being the third lucky number.

All the watches are housed in 44-mm steel cases, with domed sapphire crystals, and powered by the chronograph-equipped, ETA 7750-based Caliber G1747 — the stopwatch, of course, is activated by the hallmark Graham “trigger” mechanism on the side — with automatic winding and a 48-hour power reserve. Each of the models, all limited to just 100 pieces, are mounted on hand-sewn calf leather straps that harmonize with the colorful dials. All are priced at $5,450.
