Not long after Hublot and the World Boxing Council (WBC) joined forces in September to auction off 12 watches signed by boxing legends, the WBC Board of Governors voted Hublot chairman Jean-Claude Biver “Man of the Year” at an event celebrating the WBC’s 50th anniversary. Biver was given the award for his humanitarian efforts, including the auction of the 12 boxing legend watches, which raised over $1 million toward a pension fund for former champions and other fighters in need. After receiving the award, Biver promised to continue supporting the sport of boxing. Previous recipients of this award have included Nelson Mandela, Carlos Slim and Sylvester Stallone, among others.
Present at the event were the WBC board of governors; WBC president José Sulaiman; Rick De Lacroix, president of Hublot Latin America; legendary fighters such as Julio Cesar Chavez, Jeff Fenech, and Muhammad Ali, who sat on a throne, wearing a crown, after being named the “King of Boxing” at the event. Ali himself is no stranger to the charitable side of the watch industry, having partnered with IWC earlier this year to raise funds for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center.
