New Hublot Watches Launch at Baselworld 2014

Another new watch that Hublot introduced at Baselworld is the Classic Fusion Cathedral Tourbillon. This watch is Hublot’s second tourbillon minute repeater, updating the caliber that the brand introduced in 2010.

The Cathedral gets its name from the clear sound of its double chime repeater. The chime is designed to resonate through its case rather than on air. Its trigger is completely integrated in the bezel lug on the left side, so it doesn’t stand out or alter the case’s shape.

Hublot’s original minute repeater tourbillon movement was the HUB8000, which had a flying tourbillon. The Cathedral’s new movement is the HUB8001, a hand-winding caliber with a redesigned time-setting function, as well as a classical tourbillon. The tourbillon has a 13.6-mm cage with a barrette visible through the dial. The HUB8001 has 319 components and 30 jewels. It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour.

The Cathedral is skeletonized, and most of the movement is on display on the dial side. Its case is 45 mm in diameter, and comes in “King Gold” (in a limited edition of 50 pieces) or titanium (in a limited edition of 99 pieces). Unusually for a minute repeater, the Cathedral is water-resistant to 30 meters. It has a composite strap of black leather and rubber.

The trigger for the minute-repeater function is hidden in the lug on the left side of the case.
