Baselworld Preview: Arnold & Son HM Perpetual Moon

150Arnold & Son is expanding its Royal Collection with the addition of the HM Perpetual Moon, making its debut at Baselworld 2013.The Royal Collection is inspired by the timepieces created in the early part of John Arnold’s life, and pay tribute to the watches he produced for King George III and members of the royal court.

The watch’s main feature is a moonphase indicator with an 11.2-mm, three-dimensional sculpted moon. The moon was first hand-engraved and then duplicated for the series. The 42 mm case houses the exclusive Arnold & Son hand-wound movement, Caliber A&S1512, which has a moon phase with only one day’s deviation every 122 years, at which point a single push on the corrector will keep it in sync for another 122 years.

The watch also has a second moon indication installed at the back of the movement. This display, visible through a transparent caseback, features a graduated dial and a pointer hand that allows for a more exact setting.

Arnold & Son will offer three different versions of the HM Perpetual Moon: The “Elegant” model is created in 18k red gold with a blue guilloché dial as well as a blue guilloché moon disk with golden stars and hand-engraved moon. The “Classic” model, also in 18k red gold, has a cream-colored dial and the same blue guilloché moon disk with golden stars and hand-engraved moon as the “Elegant” model. The “Modern” model, in stainless steel, features a black guilloché dial and black guilloché moon disk with hand-engraved moon.
