Audemars Piguet Ambassador Leo Messi Voted World’s Best Soccer Player Written byWatchTimeJanuary 11, 2013 On Monday, January 7th, Audemars Piguet “brand ambassador” Leo Messi was voted the 2012 world’s best football player (that’s as in soccer, to us Americans) by football journalists, national coaches and team captains. A winner of the prestigious Ballon d’Or award for the fourth consecutive year, Messi broke the record he jointly held with Michel Platini, Marco Van Basten and Johan Cruyff, who each won the award three times. Messi scored an astonishing 91 goals in 69 games in 2012, 79 for Barcelona and 12 for Argentina, breaking the previous record held by Gerd Muller for most goals scored in a calendar year. In 2012, Audemars Piguet launched the Royal Oak Chronograph Leo Messi Limited Edition in steel, rose gold and platinum. The brand will auction the “No. 10” watch of the platinum edition in Spring 2013. All sale proceedings will go to the Leo Messi Foundation, whose aim is to help disadvantaged children around the world. The timepiece will also be accompanied by a signed jersey bearing Messi’s No. 10. Receive all the blog posts and breaking news from WatchTime for free!
