G-SHOCK has unveiled the latest update to its popular G-STEEL series, the Black X Gold GSTB100GC-1A, which follows up on the success of the initial GSTB100-1A, first unveiled in 2017. The new GSTB100GC-1A takes the now-familiar look of the ultra-tough and functional G-STEEL design and updates it with a namesake black case and dial, with gold-colored accents throughout.
Like previous G-STEEL models since the initial debut of the GSTB100 design, the GSTB100GC-1A is a hardy steel timepiece featuring chronograph functionality in an eye-catching analog format. Its black case, topped with a sapphire crystal, measures 53.8 mm and in typical G-SHOCK fashion features superior shock resistance, as well as water resistance to 200 meters.
The model’s array of functions, operable via its gold-colored pushers, include a 1-second stopwatch, countdown timer, dual time/world time displays, daily alarm, a full auto calendar accurate to 2099, and day and date indicators. When the watch is not in use, a power-saving mode activates, stopping the watch’s hands from moving and in effect saving power while maintain timekeeping in the background — ready to re-start once the timepiece is again put into service.
The case of the GSTB100GC-1A is constructed in a layer guard structure, making the watch slimmer than its predecessors in the G-STEEL line, while a BLE Connected movement utilizes Bluetooth low energy technology to pair the model with a smartphone via the G-SHOCK app. The Bluetooth connectivity enables its wearer to change the watch’s time zone, check its battery level, set a timer or alarm on the watch directly through the app, and continuously maintain highly accurate timekeeping. Via the Bluetooth connectivity, the watch is also capable of engaging a unique phone-finder function that will set off the alarm on your smartphone so that you can find it if lost and within range.
Like all watches within the G-STEEL collection, the new GSTB100GC-1A is equipped with Tough Solar technology, which offers solar energy charging capabilities. The watch’s energy level is visible on a novel, turbine-inspired subdial disk at 9 o’clock, which like much of the dial’s other details is colored in gold. Finally, in an effort to maximize usability in all conditions, a Super LED light can be activated to illuminate the dial for optimal visibility in the dark.
