Watch Insider Previews the New Chopard Superfast 919 Porsche Motorsport Chronograph

Recently I attended the Ennstal-Classic, a historical sports car rally in Austria, and while there had the chance to see the new Chopard Superfast 919 Porsche Motorsport Chronograph, a watch I like very much. Check it out (including specs and original photos) in this article, excerpted from my blog, Watch-Insider.com.

Many well-known motorsport legends attended the Ennstal-Classic — a festive gathering of historical car lovers, photographers and autograph-hunters — this year. Amongst them were Sir Stirling Moss, Walter Röhrl, Dieter Quester, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Jo Ramirez, and “Mister Le Mans“ Jacky Ickx. Ickx is a longtime ambassador for Porsche automobiles and recently become an ambassador for the entire Volkswagen Group. He is also a close friend of Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, co-president of Chopard. And it is a blending of these two big personalities that gave birth to the new Chopard Superfast 919 Porsche Motorsport Chronograph. The recent partnership agreement between Chopard and Porsche Motorsport once again turns the spotlight on the Chopard’s Superfast collection, which debuted in 2013. It is a sophisticated timepiece with exclusive finishing. The new Chopard Superfast 919 Porsche Motorsport Chronograph is entirely in tune with Porsche’s approach to motor racing, namely as a “Lab for our visions.” The imposingly sized chronograph, with its 45 mm-diameter case and flyback function, is powered by the mechanical Chopard 03.05-M caliber, which is chronometer-certified by the Swiss testing agency COSC. This “engine” and its oscillating weight can be admired through a sapphire crystal caseback engraved with the inscription “Official Timing Partner Porsche Motorsport.”

Inspired by the new Porsche 919 Hybrid, the stripes on the dial evoke the racecar’s rear diffuser. Also, the “919” that appears in a red rectangle inside the subdial at 9 o’clock is identical to the number on the Porsche racecars. Finally, the design of the rubber strap is inspired by the slick tires that enable the car to negotiate curves at extremely high speeds. Chopard says: “This new Superfast chronograph proclaims a highly exclusive nature that is a perfect match for the legendary Porsche cars, since the new Superfast 919 Porsche Motorsport Chronograph is produced in a strictly limited 919-piece series reserved for those who are quick off the mark.” Below, you will find Chopard’s official photos of the Chopard Superfast 919 Porsche Motorsport Chronograph and its movement, Caliber 03.05-M.
