America’s largest luxury watch show, WatchTime New York, returns to Manhattan’s Gotham Hall on October 14-15 (Click here for event details and to purchase tickets) and features a plethora of luxury watch brands. One of these brands is Bell & Ross, which will showcase its innovative, automotive-inspired BR 03-94 AeroGT watch.
The Bell & Ross BR 03-94GT, a mechanical chronograph, is one of two new watches inspired by the Bell & Ross AeroGT concept car, pictured below; the other is a skeletonized three-hand model. Many of the watch’s design elements are based on those of the automobile, which Bell & Ross describes as “a super car inspired by aviation.” The 42-mm case recalls the car’s “fuselage style” body with its streamlined look; the crown is made of a lightweight aluminum alloy commonly used in sports cars; and the skeletonizing of the movement, automatic Caliber BR-CAL.319, serves not only to make the entire watch lighter (as was the goal in designing the car) but also to allow the watch’s owner a glimpse into its inner mechanics, as the car does by positioning its engine under a smoked glass window.
The watch’s chronograph mechanism is engineered for measuring short time intervals, with a red central hand for the seconds and grey-tinted subdials at 9 o’clock for half-hours and 6 o’clock for hours. The date appears in a window at 3 o’clock, indicated by a red pointer. Super-LumiNova coats the hour and minute hands, as well as the metal hour markers that ring the skeletonized dial, for greater legibility. A tachymeter scale, which can be used in conjunction with the chronograph to calculate speeds, appears on the dial flange. All chronograph hands are in red, as is the stop-start chronograph pusher, which, like the crown, is made of aluminum.
The Bell & Ross BR 03-94 AeroGT comes on a black calfskin strap, stitched with red piping and a highly resistant black synthetic fabric, and fastens with a satin-polished steel pin buckle. Limited to 500 pieces, it is priced at $8,800.
