Showing at WatchTime IBG 2014: Armin Strom Gravity Date Fire

Armin Strom Gravity Date FireWatchTime and noted watch collector and expert Jeff Kingston have teamed up again for the 2014 edition of the popular “Inside Basel.Geneva” series of collector events, kicking off September 5 in Chicago. Among the core sponsoring watch brands is indie brand Armin Strom, which will showcase its new Armin Strom Gravity Date Fire at the events.

The Armin Strom Gravity Date Fire, with its 18k rose gold case, is the most luxurious of the quartet of Gravity Date watches — each named for one of the four elements — introduced at this year’s Baselworld watch fair. The others include the Gravity Date Air (in a titanium case), Gravity Date Water (in a stainless steel case) and Gravity Date Earth (in a stainless steel/black PVD case). Each of the watches is limited to 100 pieces and each contains the new Armin Strom in-house movement, Caliber ADD14, which features a date display whose mechanism is situated on the same axis as a 24-hour display.

Like the original Armin Strom Gravity watch, which debuted at Baselworld 2013, the new Gravity Date has a micro-rotor visible through the dial and the characteristic off-center time display, with the brand name along the right side of the dial. The subdial for the small seconds at 9 o’clock has two skeletonized hands. The larger one points to the date, marked in a ring inside the seconds ring. The shorter one is a 24-hour hand and aids in adjusting the date. This subdial is also subdivided into black and white halves that indicate day and night. Caliber ADD14, including its gold escape wheel and pallets and its micro-rotor at 5 o’clock, is visible through the dial. The movement carries a five-day power reserve in a single spring barrel. Its plates and bridges are decorated with hand engravings that play off the watch’s “fire” theme.

The watch’s case is 43.4 mm in diameter and 13 mm thick. It has a sapphire viewing window in the caseback and is water-resistant to 50 meters. It comes on a brown hornback alligator strap with an 18k gold ardillon buckle along with an additional brown strap made of rubber. You can also opt for an 18k rose-gold double folding clasp. The Armin Strom Gravity Date Fire is priced at $31,500.
