Saving the Sharks: Oris Hammerhead Limited Edition (Update with Live Pictures)


Oris, which has been making divers’ watches since the 1960s, and which has a stated mission to protect endangered marine species, has set out to combat the threat of the world’s declining shark population with the release of a new watch at Baselworld, the Oris Hammerhead Limited Edition.

Ocean-blue elements, like the central seconds hand and minute scale numerals, highlight the gray dial.

The watch, which is based on the second-generation Oris Aquis watch launched in 2011, is limited to 2,000 pieces. Proceeds from its sales will go to raising funds for a shark conservation project run by Pelagios Kakunja, a non-profit organization devoted to studying the migratory paths of marine predators, supported by professional diver (and Oris ambassador) Jérôme Delafosse.

    It looks like the Rolex Submariner was in an orgy with a Blancpain 50 Fathoms and the Egerhard & Co Scagroof 300 that won the GPHG ( still having difficulty to digest this one) and the result was this new Oris. I cannot believe the lack of imagination of most watch designers. No wonder why the iWatches are slowly but surely taking over the wrist watches segment.

    Oris is by far my favorite watch brand! I own a Maldives and a Pro Diver..this Hammerhead is definitely in my sights…….I will be waiting impatiently for its release in the US
