Oris Goes Green: New Divers Sixty-Five Watches Sport Green Dials

Oris is once again expanding its popular vintage-inspired dive watch collection, the Divers Sixty-Five, adding a new, dark-green-dialed version, available with four different bracelet/strap options.

The Oris Divers Sixty-Five, launched in 2015, revives the look of an Oris dive watch released more than half a century ago and gives it a 21st century makeover. The 1965 model had a chromium-plated brass case and plexiglas crystal, a bidirectional rotating bezel, and a black plastic strap, while the new versions have larger cases in corrosion-resistant stainless steel; a scratch-resistant, nonreflective sapphire crystal with a “bubble-curved” shape; and a safer (for diving) unidirectional bezel. The bezel is enhanced with a black aluminum inlay, and the hands and indices (filled with tritium on the original model) are filled with a type of Super-LumiNova called “Light Old Radium” whose beige glow contrasts nicely with the black dial in the dark. The trapezoidal date window at 3 o’clock is another callback to the original watch’s design.

The Divers Sixty-Five’s solid steel caseback is engraved with the same historical Oris emblem found on the original’s, the crown screws down to ensure a water-resistance to 100 meters. Beneath the caseback ticks the modern movement, Oris’s automatic Caliber 733, which is based on a Sellita SW200. The “oceanic green”-dialed watches, whose cases measure 42 mm in diameter (slightly larger than the 40 mm of the first Divers Sixty Five models), come on a black rubber strap, a stainless steel bracelet, a green-and-black textile NATO strap, or a vintage-look brown leather strap, all fitted with an adjustable steel folding clasp, and all priced at $1,990.
