New Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Limited Edition Begins Countdown to 2018 Olympic Games

The next Winter Olympics, to be held in PyeongChang, South Korea, begin on February 9, 2018. Omega, official Olympic timekeeper since 1932, begins the two-year countdown with the launch of its Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra “PyeongChang 2018” Limited Edition timepiece.

After going to its Speedmaster collection to commemorate this year’s summer games in Rio de Janeiro (a Bullhead and a Speedmaster Mark II), Omega turns to its sporty, maritime-themed Seamaster Aqua Terra family — characterized by its teakwood-deck-motif dial, here in blue PVD — to represent the PyeongChang winter games.

The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra “PyeongChang 2018” Limited Edition adds to the familiar Aqua Terra design codes with the words “PYEONGCHANG 2018,” in the colors of the five Olympic Rings, inscribed on the minute track. In an amazing coincidence, the numerals “2018” align precisely with the “18” and “20” minute indices, a phenomenon that cannot recur in our lifetime.

The stainless steel case measures 41 mm in diameter and includes a transparent sapphire caseback, which is decorated with the colorful “PyeongChang 2018” Olympic logo. The limited edition number of the watch (of which only 2,018 will be made) is engraved on the side of the case. Beneath the caseback, the wearer is offered a view of the watch’s movement, Omega’s Master Co-Axial Caliber 8500, which features automatic winding, chronometer certification, and a co-axial escapement, among other attributes.  Available in March, the watch, priced at $6,400, comes in a special Olympic-themed presentation box.
