BASELWORLD 2017 PREVIEW:

Mühle Glashütte Expands Teutonia Collection with Sport I Chronograph

Germany’s Mühle Glashütte adds a sporty twist to its elegant Teutonia line of watches with the release of the Teutonia Sport I, a masculine-looking chronograph with a racing-inspired tachymeter-scale surrounding the dial. Here’s a sneak peek at the Teutonia Sport I ahead of its official debut at the upcoming Baselworld 2017 watch fair.

The brushed and polished stainless steel case of the Mühle Glashütte Teutonia Sport I measures 42.6 mm in diameter and 15.5 mm thick. It is fronted by a bidirectional rotating bezel with a ratcheted edge and an engraved minutes scale. Inside the bezel, on the flange of the black tricompax dial, is a red-printed tachymeter scale, which, used in conjunction with the watch’s chronograph function, can calculate speeds over distances up to 1,000 meters. The three subdials — chronograph counters at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock — have light gray borders. The date appears in a window at 4 o’clock. Super-LumiNova appears on the hour and minute hand and applied hour indices. Two plunger-style pushers flanking the screw-down crown activate the chronograph’s start, stop, and return-to-zero operations. The bright red color of the central chronograph seconds hand, and on the tips of the two small chrono subdial hands, echo the color of the tachymeter scale numerals.

The chronograph hands are highlighted in red, matching the numerals on the tachymeter scale.

The watch contains Mühle’s automatic MU 9413 movement, which is visible through an exhibition caseback. Like other movements made in the German watchmaking hub of Glashütte, in the state of Saxony, it has the traditional three-quarter mainplate and decorative finishes typical of Glashütte watchmaking. The company has also enhanced the caliber with its own customized winding rotor and a patented “woodpecker neck” regulation (a departure from the more common “swan’s neck” style). In addition to the time, date, and chronograph, the movement provides for a rapid date correction and a stop-seconds function.

Completing the sporty picture, the Mühle Glashütte Teutonia Sport I is supplied with a waterproof leather-and-rubber strap, which attaches to the 100-meter water-resistant case’s lugs via screwed strap attachment bridges and fastens with a stainless steel pin buckle. The watch’s price will be announced at Baselworld 2017.
