Movado Kenny Scharf Launched in 1987, The Movado Artists’ Series was a natural evolution for a company whose watches are included in the collections of some of the world's leading museums. The Artists’ Series is composed of commissioned, limited edition timepieces designed by leading artists. Those who have created watches to date include Andy Warhol, Max Bill and James Rosenquist. Movado now introduces the newest Artists’ Series entry – a suite of six colorful, whimsical dial designs by Brooklyn-based American artist Kenny Scharf. Scharf, who was born in Hollywood, California in 1958 and holds a B.F.A. from the School of Visual Arts in New York, has earned international recognition for his playful, topical, powerful paintings which push the line between pop culture and fine art. Acclaimed works by Kenny Scharf have been exhibited in prominent museums around the world, including the Whitney. Now Kenny Scharf brings six boldly graphic dial designs to the Movado Artists’ Series. He has named his watches Movado Time, Blurple Time, Universal Time, Starring the Star, Ontime and Time Flies. Each Kenny Scharf dial design is framed in a simple round stainless steel case featuring a custom-engraved case-back. Each timepiece includes two interchangeable leather straps that play off colors found in the dial. The movements are Swiss quartz. The crystals are scratch-resistant, dual-sided anti-reflective sapphire. The watches are water resistant to 3ATM. Produced in limited editions of 125 individually numbered pieces, each intriguing Kenny Scharf watch comes specially packaged in a Scharf-design box with a certificate of authenticity. For the true art watch aficionado, these six Kenny Scharf Movado Artists’ Series timepieces are also offered as a limited edition collector’s set in a colorful, custom presentation box, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The first 25 pieces issued in each edition will be reserved for these sets. Individual timepieces are priced at $695. Collector's sets are $3495.
