In 2014, the 110th anniversary of its founding, Oris introduced its first in-house movement in nearly 40 years, the aptly named Caliber 110. In every year since, the brand has rolled out another variation of that base movement, adding increased functionalities and complications. The new Artelier Calibre 113, launched at Baselworld 2017, features the fourth of these movements, which is equipped with a so-called “business calendar,” with indications for the day, date, week, and month of the year.
Like Oris’s previous in-house calibers, numbered 110, 111, and 112, Caliber 113 offers an impressive 10-day power reserve in a single mainspring barrel and powers a non-linear power-reserve indicator and a small seconds display in addition to the hours and minutes. The combination of calendar functions that have been added for Caliber 113 are rarely found together in a single timepiece (Oris says this watch is unique in that regard), with the 52-week scale being especially unusual (Blancpain has designed one of its new calendar models, also introduced at Baselworld 2017, to include this function, albeit without the month indications). This manual-winding movement, which oscillates at 21,600 vph and is on display through an exhibition caseback, was a product of Oris’s recently founded research and development department, dubbed the Centre of Excellence. We expect that work on further iterations of Caliber 110, with additional complications, is already underway there.
The Oris Artelier Calibre 113 has a 43-mm stainless steel case, water-resistant to 50 meters, with a nonreflective sapphire crystal over the dial. The dial — offered in opaline silver or anthracite versions — features windows for the day and date, below 12 o’clock and at 9 o’clock, respectively; small seconds at o’clock; the patented 10-day non-linear power-reserve indicator at 3 o’clock; and a central, red-tipped pointer hand to indicate the month and week on concentric scales on the dial’s outer edge. Impressively, all of these functions can be set by the single grooved crown, which has a relief Oris logo. The anthracite dials are enhanced with applied nickel indices and polished nickel hands; on the silver dials, the indices and hands are either in nickel or gold-plated. The hands are filled with Super-LumiNova. Both dial versions come on Louisiana crocodile leather straps (gray, black, or dark brown for the silver dials, brown only for the anthracite) or stainless steel bracelets. The price for both bracelet and strap versions is $6,300.
