Romain Jerome Batman-DNA: The Dark Knight of Watches

Romain Jerome Batman-DNAThis year marks the 75th anniversary of DC Comics’s Batman, and Romain Jerome — a luxury watch brand that has previously paid tribute to pop culture touchstones, including 1980s video arcade games, and historical events such as the sinking of the Titanic — now honors Gotham City’s Dark Knight with the limited-edition Batman-DNA watch.

The Romain Jerome Batman-DNA, limited to 75 pieces for the iconic super hero’s 75th anniversary, is a dream project for Romain Jerome CEO manuel Emch, who comments, “I have always been a fan of Batman; his mysterious character and double identity is an exhaustible source of inspiration. He represents a duality between good and evil in a contemporary world.” The watch has a 46-mm case and bezel in black-PVD-coated steel; the bezel’s angular, machine-worked contours are designed to echo the look of Batman’s famous Batmobile. The dial evokes both the grit of Gotham City and the Dark Knight’s gray-and-black uniform, with a graphite-effect texture and an appliqué Batman bat emblem, lacquered in black, at the dial’s center. The “Bat-Signal,” which Gotham’s police shines in the night sky to summon the hero, is the inspiration for the engraved area outlining the bat logo, which is filled with black Super-LumiNova and glows with an eerie blue tint in darkness. The dial, with Romain Jerome’s typical “rough” finish, also has a polished, applied “RJ” logo at 12 o’clock. The central hour and minute hands, also in Romain Jerome’s distinctive style, are black and satin-brushed and feature the same blue-emission luminous paint.

Like Batman and his alter ego, billionaire Bruce Wayne, Romain Jerome’s Batman-DNA watch is business by day (above) and action by night (below).

Inside the 30-meter-water-resistant case is the automatic RJ001-A caliber, which beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph, contains 23 jewels, and holds a 42-hour power reserve. The Batman-DNA watch comes on a black hornback crocodile strap, echoing the look of Batman’s leather uniform. The watch, described by Romain Jerome as “dark and edgy” like the fictional hero that inspired it, and as a “piece of wearable art,” will be priced at $18,500.
