Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso Ultra-Thin Duoface

JLC_Grande_Reverso_Ultra_Thin_Duoface_150Jaeger-LeCoultre commemorated the 80th anniversary of its iconic Reverso watch in 2011 with release of the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin 1931. This year, which marks the brand’s 180th anniversary, Jaeger-LeCoultre adds the Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Duoface to its lineup, another super-slim model with the trademark swiveling case, this one with a dual time-zone display on the caseback.

The Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Duoface pays homage to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s very first Duoface timepiece, which debuted in 1944, which contained the first movement capable of controlling two time displays on two separate dials. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmakers and designers realized that this mechanical breakthrough (still exclusive to the brand) made it possible to create a highly original dual time-zone display.

In keeping with the original model, the watch’s silver-toned dial has baton-shaped hour-markers swept and dagger-shaped hands. The inscription “REVERSO” also faithfully reflects the design of the original watch. The dial’s other highlight is the small seconds subdial at 6 o ’clock.

On the opposite side of the pivoting case is a second dial, this one in black with a “Clous de Paris” hobnail guilloché motif and displaying a main chapter ring with 12 subdivisions to display the second time zone. Here, the subdial at 6 o’clock displays the 24-hour time indication in a circle bearing the words “NIGHT” on the left and “DAY” on the right. The second time zone is adjusted in one-hour increments by means of a push-piece integrated into the side of the Art Deco-inspired rectangular case.

The ultra-thin case (just 9.14 mm thick) houses an appropriately slim movement, the manually-wound Caliber 854/1, which is only 3.8 mm thick. The movement comprises 180 parts and its balance oscillates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour.

The Grande Reverso Ultra Thin Duoface is offered in either an 18k rose gold (pictured above) or steel case (below), each with a black alligator leather strap and a buckle that matches the case.
